Finalmente riesco a postare la mia piccola guida su New York. Non vi descriverò le peculiarità di ogni luogo, se siete in partenza vi consiglio di acquistare la guida della Lonley Planet, piccola, leggera e completa.
Visto che le fotografie tra cui scegliere erano davvero troppe ho deciso di caricare delle piccole "cartoline" per segnalarvi le cose principali che ho visto in questa immensa città. Potete poi trovare la gallery completa sulla fanpage di facebook.

Il primo giorno, siamo arrivati in città nel pomeriggio e abbiamo fatto un giro a midtown west, la zona del nostro hotel, situato sulla 44th street tra la 5th a la 6th Avenue, prima di andare a cena. Le luci di NY sono strabilianti, così come le vetrine natalizie dei più importanti negozi.
The first day we arrived in the city in the late afternoon so we have had a walk aroud mitdtown west, as our hotel was on the 44th street, between 5th and 6th Avenue. The light at Christmas in this part of the city are amazing, as the show windows of the most important stores.
Il secondo giorno siamo partiti dall'hotel e a piedi abbiamo percorso la 5th Avenue fino all'Empire State building, da cui si può ammirare tutta la città dal suo punto più alto. Da lì abbiamo proseguito fino al Flatiron District e poi giù fino a Union Square.
The second day we walk on the 5th Avenue to the Empire State building, where you can take a look of the city from its higer point. From here we proceeded to Flatiron District and Union Square.
Dopo un pranzo veloce un taxi ci ha accompagnato a Downtown, dove il nostro giro è proseguito al memoriale dell'11 settembre, davvero toccante soprattutto essendo la vigilia di Natale. Da lì abbiamo esplorato la zona di Wall Street, ci siamo diretti sull'east river per ammirare il ponte di Brooklin e poi verso l'imbarco per la statua della libertà. Purtroppo, visto che il sole scende presto, non siamo riusciti a prendere il traghetto per le isole, ma credo che sia interessante visitare il museo dell'immigrazione di Ellis Island.
After a fast lunch a taxi took us to Downtown, where we saw the 9-11 memorial: it was a touching experience, as it was Christmas eve. From here we take a walk around Wall Street, Brookling Bridge and xxxxx. As the sunset was too early we didn't succed in visiting the islands but I think that the Immigration museum on Ellis Island is a very interesting place.
Il terzo giorno, il giorno di Natale, lo abbiamo passato, dopo la Messa nella cattedrale di Saint Patrick, tra Central Park e il Rockfeller Center. Abbiamo fatto il tour "arte e vista", che però vi sconsiglio in quanto le stesse informazioni le potrete cercare approfondendo la conoscenza dell'edificio. Come non fare una puntata alle meravigliose vetrine di Bergdorf&Goodman e all'apple store? Mitico! Prima di rientrare in albergo abbiamo fatto due passi fino alla Grand Central Station, davvero vicina.
The third day we assist to the Christmas Service in Saint Patrick's Chatedral, and then we made a walk at Central Park and in the afternoon the guided tour of the Rockfeller Center. We choose the option "Art and Seeing", but you can find the same infos on the building online or on the books, so you can go directly on the Top of the Rock. We made a stop at Bergdorf&Goodman windows and at the Apple Store, really amazing! As the Grand Central Station was near our hotel, we take a look before come back.
Il quarto giorno lo abbiamo dedicato ai musei: al mattino al Guggenheim e il pomeriggio dedicato al Metropolitan. Finalmente ho visto di persona la sorprendente e decisamente senza tempo architettura di Wright, studiata e ristudiata sui libri, il grande spazio centrale era totalmente occupato dalla splendida mostra All di Cattelan: tutte le sue opere esposte (tranne due). Fantastica l'app per smartphone e tablet, che vi consiglio di acquistare soprattutto se non avrete l'occasione di andare a visitare.

The firth day we visited two museum: in the morning the Guggenheim and in the afternoon the Metropolitan. At the Guggenheim ther's the exibithion of "All" by Cattelan, including almost all his works. If you don't have the possibility to visit this great exibith it's possible to download the smartphone and tablet app about it. It's very very cute!
Il quinto giorno invece, abbiamo visitato al mattino il MoMA, ma non essendo una intenditrice di arte contemporanea ho goduto soprattutto dello spazio dedicato alla grafica, al design e all'architettura contemporanea. Il pomeriggio (che avrei voluto passare passeggiando a Soho e dintorni) è stato funestato da una pioggia battente che ci ha spinti a rinchiuderci nei negozi, con una visita al Gaga's Workshop da Barneys.
The fifth day, however, in the morning we visited the MoMA, but not being a connoisseur of contemporary art I enjoyed the space dedicated to graphic design and contemporary architecture. My plan for the afternoon (I wanted to go walking in Soho and vicinity) has been upset by heavy rain, which prompted us to visit some stores, along Madison Avenue, with a long stop at Barneys' Gaga Workshop.
L'ultimo giorno, avendo a disposizione solo il mattino prima della partenza, la mia famiglia ha preferito mantenersi nelle vicinanze dell'albergo e abbiamo fatto nuovamente un giro a Times Square con l'acquisto di qualche gadget e regalo natalizio per noi e per gli amici. Spero di tornare presto per vedere tutte le cose che erano nei miei piani e che per mancanza di tempo non ho visto, come il New Museum e la Green Line.
The last day, having only the morning before departure, my family chose to stay near the hotel and we made a trip back in Times Square with the purchase of some gadgets and Christmas gifts for us and for friends. I hope to return soon to see all the things that were in my plans and that due to time constraints I have not seen, like the New Museum and the Green Line.
